How to get to Start/Finish

To start of MTB Long course (Smaills Beach): Travel east along Andersons Bay Road. Veer right into Queens Drive after BP Service Station. Turn left into Victoria Road at roundabout. Follow Victoria Road up hill past cemetery and veer right into Tomahawk Road. Follow Tomahawk Road into Tomahawk and over the next hill down into Smaills Beach. The car park will be signposted from Tautuku Fishing Club.

To start of MTB Short course, and run & walk courses (Allans beach); Travel east along Portsmouth Drive, and turn left into Portobello Road. Follow Portobello Road down side of harbour to Portobello. Turn right into Allan’s Beach Road and follow over hill to Hoopers Inlet. Turn left at intersection and drive around left side of Hooper’s Inlet to the end of the road at Allan’s beach. The car park will be signposted at Allans Beach.

To the finish venue (Natures Wonders, Taiaroa Head): Travel east along Portsmouth Drive and turn left into Portobello Road down side of harbour to Harrington Point (approx 2km from Taiaroa Head). Follow the road up the hill, and follow the signs to the carpark allocated at Natures Wonders. Please take care on this road and drive slowly as it is a narrow road.

Return Transport

We are offering return transport from Natures Wonders (end of race) to either Allans Beach or Smaills beach. There is a cost of $10.00. If you require this service, please tick the transport box on your entry form. Free transport will be provided for the Short Walk and Short Run competitors back to Allans Beach.

Late Entry Fee

A late entry fee of $10 applies to all entries after Tuesday 17th January 2012.

Confirmed entry

Your entry will be confirmed when it is posted on the www.otagopeninsulachallenge.co.nz website, on or before the 25th of January 2012.

Race Packs and Registration

Registration will be at R&R Sport, 70 lower Stuart Street, Dunedin from 2pm - 6pm Friday and 10am - 12midday Saturady (27th & 28th Jan). Race packs will include your race numbers, race rules and updated information.

Briefing

Approx 30 minutes before each event at the start point of each event - all participants must attend.

Course Cut-off Times

- Long Walk: 12 midday at the boat ride waiting area – you will be redirected to the short walk finish at the pyramids carpark

- Long Run: 12.30pm at the pyramids car park – you will be withdrawn from the long course event and times will be recorded as short course run times

- Long MTB: 1pm at Allans Beach – you will be withdrawn and redirected to a shorter course

R&R Sport bike mechanics

Will be riding the course and will offer assistance if required but you must carry your own basic bike maintenance equipment.

First Aid (St John)

Will be available on course if required and at the finish line.

Prizegiving

Will be at Natures Wonders at approximately 2:30pm. Be there to win a GT Mountain bike worth $1,599!

Food and refreshments

There will be hot food, drinks and snacks available to purchase at Natures Wonders at the race finish. Don't forget your wallet.

Alternatively you can pre-order a lunch pack. This will be a healthy lunch pack and will include a filled roll, muesli bar and fruit. The cost is $10.00. Please indicate on your entry form if you would like to pre-order.

Gear list

The Otago Peninsula is extremely exposed in places, and weather conditions can change rapidly. It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that you take the following equipment:

Bikers: Wet weather jacket, thermal top, drink and snack food, tube, tyre levers and pump
Walkers/Runners: Wet weather jacket, thermal top, drink and snack food.

There will be drink stops provided for each event, please see the maps in your race packs and on the web site.

Personal Music Players (iPods etc)

Ear plug music players shall not be worn or used in this event. Personal music players reduce your awareness of what is happening around you. Not hearing marshals instructions or rapidly approaching cyclists or cars may compromise your safety and the safety of others.

Support Crews

Supporters or support crew are requested not to shadow their competitor as they add to the congestion and may hinder other competitors ie MTBers trying to pass runners and cause traffic problems. 

Prizes

There will be lots of Spot prizes to be won! There are be money prizes for first place getters in the mountainbike and run events and trophies for placegetters. All competitors are eligible for spot prizes and for the major spot prize of a GT Avalanche 1.0 Mountainbike with an RRR of $1,599.
