WELCOME TO THE
OTAGO PENINSULA CHALLENGE
The Otago Peninsula Lions, in conjunction with Mountain Biking Otago and Athletics Otago are proud to bring you the Otago Peninsula Challenge.
2010's event was great, with everyone enjoying some of what the Otago Peninsula has to offer. To all those involved, especially the competitors, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did, and that we will see you back next year. See the navigation bar on the left for the results and feedback form.
Walk: 15km
Run: 23km
Short MTB: 23km
Long MTB: 43km
Crossing through 10 private properties, this is your once a year chance to take a walk, run or ride down The Wild Side of the Otago Peninsula. With some of the most spectacular scenery in the country, this is not an opportunity to be missed.
All entrants get to traverse the famous Cape Saunders, one of the most scenic parts of the Peninsula. There is even a short boat ride across Papanui Inlet for the walkers.
All profit will be returned to the Otago Peninsula Community. Beneficiaries in 2008 were: The Otago Coastguard, Yellow eyed Penguin Trust and Portobello Kindergarten.
A good level of fitness is required for the run and mountain bike courses. We recommend that you do some hill training. We also recommend a 'good' level of fitness for the Walk, which is a 'social' course', so that you can really enjoy your self. For safety reasons, there will be course cut off times, please check our website www.otagopeninsulachallenge.co.nz and your race packs.
Once again there will be PARKING available this year, at Natures Wonders. PLEASE NOTE THAT DOGS ARE NOT PERMITTED AT THE FINISH AREA - THIS IS A WILDLIFE RESERVE AND A WORKING FARM. See How to get to the start/finish information.
MUCH OF THE LAND IS PRIVATELY OWNED. ANYONE FOUND USING THE LAND OUTSIDE THE EVENT ARE LIKELY TO BE PROSECUTED. Please respect the generosity of the landowners.
